SOLVING HORMONE PROBLEMS IN HOUSTON & SUGAR LAND
Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers. They are created in your endocrine glands. There are eight glands in the human endocrine system. These endocrine glands are:
Each of the above eight glands, plus the reproductive glands, the ovaries and testes, perform unique individual functions based on their secreted hormone levels. Hormones are critical to your health in that they control most of your major bodily functions, from the simple sensation of hunger to more complex systems like reproduction (ovaries and testes glands), emotions and mood. Hormone imbalances are common in women and men.
The human endocrine system is responsible for maintaining an incredibly delicate balance between over 50 different hormones. If any of these hormones fall out of balance (either too high or too low), they can cause symptoms that can wreak havoc on your health. For example, many men have low testosterone, the male hormone linked to secondary sexual characteristics such as body hair and a deeper voice as well as aggressiveness, sexual desire and performance. Men with low testosterone often suffer from reduced sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, fatigue, low energy, muscle weakness, pot belly, weight gain, diminished performance and depression as they age. If you think you have low testosterone, your doctor can do a simple blood test to determine whether you have low testosterone.
Each of the endocrine glands may be affected by various problems. In the next section, you’ll find information specific to individual glands such as the thyroid and pituitary glands.
